Letting go some more

 From Cherokee, NC ...

Worn mainly as house shoes...

They had served their purpose in my life...

These old mocs have been given away, perhaps someone else would throw them away.  I think they are still in pretty good shape, the leather uppers have continued to be without damage, so I'm recycling them.

But I pulled out the gel inserts...may find another pair of shoes that they fit.

I purchased these in the early 90s.  Can 30 year old moccasins talk?  Probably to say they were never all that comfortable, and now are at least a size too small for my feet, which have lengthened and widened in those 30 years.

I don't think of myself as a horder, but each time I cleaned out the closet, I would toss these into the "keep pile" until last week.  There are a lot more things that need this kind of sorting however!

Mixin' business with pleasure

My friend and I drove to deliver our pottery order from a long time ago, and then had a nice lunch and drove around Morganton, NC a bit.

The Amish Furniture Store had some good looking rockers to enjoy in the shade We were surprised to see composite wood being used, but the other furniture inside the store was more of the expected hardwoods.

Jakes Wayback Burgers (next door) sold us delicious economical fare, including some great milkshakes.

A day camp was in session at Catawba Meadows Park, as well as a zip line.

The Beanstalk Zip Line had a climbing portion, as well as the zip area.

A couple of kids and an adult at the end of the zip line.

As we weren't really set up to climb or zip, we enjoyed just taking photos, then went on our way.

Simplicity

The geraniums, bright and cheerful on white stoneware...a sweet way to have color around as well as handmade designs.  These little plates, cups and bowls are ideal for any snacks, or breaking a fast.

I have placed some of these on shelves in the office of Black Mountain Center for the Arts...where their sales will support the non-profit center's activities.

Letting go of imperfection

Thouigh I measured the width of candles, and then used a calculator to figure shrinkage, then tried to make the cups the right size, they were too large! So I tried to sell this nice candlestand this way, using various things to hold the candles in place...but if it's not perfect, why keep apologizing?

So it had the hammer treatment today.  Time to let go of a nice idea which I spent hours on, and it actually looked pretty nice...but why keep it around if it's not that useable?  Indeed.  There are more things waiting to be made, to be used, to be treasured.  This isn't what I intended, so it is destroyed.

Today's quote:

An optimist isn't necessarily a blithe, sappy whistler in the dark. To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic... If we remember those times and places where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.
